The health benefits of white tea – Part 2

The mildest, most delicate tea available on the market today is white tea. Don’t let the delicateness of this tea fool you though. White tea packs the strongest punch against certain kinds of bacteria, cancer, and sun damage than any other type of tea. White tea shares the same benefits as green tea, but with a bigger punch. In fact, if you take the benefits of green tea and multiply them by four you will have the power of white tea.

White tea is processed less than green tea so it retains more of the antioxidants needed to fight off bacteria and cancer. White tea is made from the youngest leaves and buds of the of the Camellia Sinensis plant (the same plant that green tea and black tea comes from) which gives this tea a delicate flavor. These leaves and buds are steamed before they are dried to prevent oxidation while the leaves in green tea and black tea are rolled and dried. White tea is named for the appearance of the fuzz on the buds that turns white after the buds are dried.

The benefits of white tea are many.

White tea can reduce your risk of infection by slowing the growth of bacteria. A Pace University study showed that white tea extract could fight of the bacterium that causes Staphylococcus and Streptococcus.

White tea can benefit your oral health. According to Dr. Christine Dumas, the polyphenols in tea can suppress the bacterium that causes cavities from growing or from producing acid. It also prevents the formation of the enzymes that bind plaque to your teeth.

White tea has been proven to help in reducing your risk for colon cancer. A 2007 study at Southern Ohio University supported that white tea inhibited cell growth in the colon and even suppressed the early formation of colon cancer lesions.

One of the benefits of white tea that can help everyone is benefit of the protection from sun damage. White tea aids your skins immune system to protect it from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. This in turn can help prevent skin cancer and signs of aging.

One benefit that I have found is that white tea has a mild flavor that is easy to drink either hot or cold. It is so much easier to get health benefits from a tea that tastes as good as it is for you. Just two or three cups of white tea a day can give you many health benefits. And, if you are able to find a quiet place and relax while having the tea it can also have the benefit of relieving daily stress.

Try some white tea, hot or iced, and you will be singing the praises of white tea yourself.
